Choosing Your Glass: Tips and Tricks for Selecting the Right Pieces
To start with, you need a shape that you are going to work with. One of the best pieces of advice that you need to remember: it will be a much easier project if you find wooden shapes that you want to decorate with the mosaic to turn these into glass ornaments. Go to your local craft store and look as the various wood shape that they may have. They do not have to be super thick, you just want enough of a shape that you can decorate. Size-wise, you can go with whatever feels right.
Now, you need the glass that you are going to be using on these wooden shapes. There are those who use broken china pieces that they have at home. This can be a great option if you have some broken china that has a lot of memories to it. While you may not be able to put this back together again, you can most certainly keep it in this format. If you do not have any broken glass pieces at home, consider buying some at your craft store. Other people prefer to make their own by collecting glass bottles of different colors to make these.
Next, you will need to have glue that works in adhering glass to wood. You will find this readily available at your local craft store as well. Be sure to get some gloves to wear while doing this so that you do not get cut.
Once you have the wooden shapes and glue ready to go, then lay out your glass pieces and start to glue these onto the shape. You opt to fit these together tightly or loosely depending upon the end result that you want to achieve. You will find that it will take 24 hours or so for these to dry fully, so the glass does not fall off. Then, once they are dry, you have beautiful mosaic glass ornaments that you made yourself that can be displayed on your tree or in other areas of your home.
